Hi, I’m Kristie! I'm a photographer, storyteller, preservationist, and proud Southern Maryland girl.
The water, woods, and flyway have shaped so much of who I am, and they’ve also shaped the way I photograph the world around me.
My love for photography started early with a green Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles camera in my hands—and somehow, that little camera turned into a lifelong career. After studying photography in high school, I continued my education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, earning my Bachelor of Arts in Applied Design Photography in 2006. I began my career teaching photography at the College of Southern Maryland while photographing families, weddings, sports, and life throughout Southern Maryland.
In April 2009, my career took me to Capitol Hill when I joined the U.S. House of Representatives as an Official House Photographer under the Chief Administrative Officer. Over the years, I photographed history as it happened and later served as Supervisor of Photography & Multimedia, leading the Photo and Video team. Today, I serve as a Program Specialist with House Creative Services, supporting visual storytelling, digital asset management, and the preservation of historical imagery.
For more than 17 years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to help document and preserve history at the U.S. Capitol.
But outside of Washington, my heart has always been here in Southern Maryland.
Give me a camera, a pair of waders, a boat, and somewhere near the water, and I’m happy. You’ll find me kayaking on a summer afternoon, standing chest-deep in cold water photographing retrievers during duck season, tucked into the woods documenting a hunt, or following along on a fishing trip waiting for the moments that tell the real story.
I photograph the things I genuinely love hunting, fishing, retrievers, wildlife, watermen, families, sports, and the outdoor traditions that make Southern Maryland feel like home.
For me, photography has never been about simply making a pretty picture.
It’s about preserving a story.
It’s the muddy dog climbing back into the boat. The first duck. The first deer. A father teaching his child to fish. A family gathered in the same place they’ve gathered for generations. The photographs hanging on the wall today that will someday become the photographs our children refuse to part with.
That belief is also what led me to create Southern Maryland Archives.
Through photo scanning, restoration, organization, and memory preservation, I help families rescue boxes of photographs, albums, negatives, slides, and pieces of family history that might otherwise disappear. I believe the old photographs tucked away in our homes deserve more than a box in the attic. They deserve to be preserved, shared, and passed down.
Because photographs become more valuable with time.
I’m also a very proud hockey mom. When I’m not working or somewhere outside with a camera, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find me at a rink watching my son, Reed, play hockey and, of course, probably taking pictures. Being his mom has made me even more aware of how quickly seasons of life come and go.
That’s really the thread running through everything I do:
The moments we think we’ll remember forever are exactly the moments worth preserving.
So whether you want someone to climb into the boat with you, stand in the marsh in a pair of waders, document your child’s first harvest, photograph your retriever doing what they were born to do, capture your family as you are right now, or help preserve generations of photographs that came before you. I’d love to tell your story.
I don’t just photograph the outdoors. I live it. I hunt, fish, spend entirely too much time near the water, and understand why these traditions mean so much to the people who love them.
This is my home. These are the stories I love.
